why English is hard to learn?

After reading this site, give your own reasons why you find it easy/hard to learn English.

  1. I found interesting those paradoxes but I do not think is that difficult. There is just a few exceptions (like those paradoxes) that makes English tricky (for instance, the false friends; the expressions that are now common in Spanish and makes us tend to translate literally in English...); but I see it as a challenge and not as an added difficulty. I would not be in this degree if I would found English as an impossible language to learn.

  2. I don't think English is a difficult language to learn. In fact, I think it's one of the simplest languages. The main facts that make people think that English is a difficult language is the pronunciation of words (it changes a lot from written form to spoken one) and, as Dani said, vocabulary.
English vocabulary can really drive people crazy because some words that look alike may mean totally the opposite, or because of the famous phrasal verbs, the false friends, and so on.

  4. I think that English can be considered hard to learn because of its irregular forms, idioms, phrasal verbs, pronunciation and so on.
However, people must know that it is not necessary to know all about English to speak it because learning a language involves a continuous development and acquisition of knowledge. In fact, this task is really the hard part and not the language itself.
Therefore, if someone sets out to learn English, working on it regularly, it will be generally incorporated into their mind without realising.

  5. After having read the webside most people will say that English is a complex language. Moreover, maybe the reason why English is considered hard to learn, apart from its tricky vocabulary and pronunciation, is due to the process of learning used to be focused on learning more grammar by heart than putting the language into practice.
But in my opinion English is not so difficult to learn, why? Because of it is one of the most important languages all over the world nowadays, you can learn it everywhere or even media allow you to learn this language for free. Once you have learnt grammar and have felt comfortable using the language, you will realise that English is not a crazy language and you can understand ambiguos sentences or words thanks context, as the examples have been given

  7. I must confess that I have mixed feelings about this issue. On one side, it has always been mentioned that English is not a difficult or complex language due to the relatively easy grammar it contains. As such, we hear about the lack of verb declensions, lack of grammar cases as in Latin, and lack of inflections in general. We have also established that English is a flexible language.
However, the worldwide span that this language possesses, might make us rethink that English must adapt to many local languages, and thus, become a second language used for official matters or remain as a foreign language. This last issue has also meant that English has opened up to many different cultures and thus acquired many thousands of foreign words, which make English learning a hard task. So wide is the influence of this language in the world, that I think it is best to specify which variety we are dealing with, rather than just saying "English". It is also worth remembering that English is full of irregularities, paradoxes and illogical pronunciations. Therefore, we must finally admit that English is not as easy as many people assume.

  9. I think that English is one of the easiest language to learn, it is not complex at all. This language can be tricky in some words, expressions, pronunciations... However, its grammar and forms are simple. After Chinese, English is spoken by more people than any other language, if aliens took their spacecrafts and came to our planet, they would speak English to us. It is the lingua franca of the world.

  11. The English can be considered difficult because it is different, for example, the English language is written one way and pronounced another way, and they also have the phrase verbs and false friends. I think when people will start learning a language is difficult but then with the constant dedication and after several years the language will become gradually easier.

  12. I don´t think that English is difficult to learn. But, many non-native speakers can consider it one of the most difficult because the pronounciation is complex and what is more, it is written in a different way that it is spoken, and also there are many vocabulary to learn.

  13. From my point of view, English is not difficult to understand or to speak. Of course, everybody commits mistakes because it is not our mother language (because even we make mistakes in our own mother language) but I think that since you begin to study it, you begin to understand everything little by little, as well as Spanish teachers at schools make you understand when do you have to put the written accent or things like that. However, I have met a lot of people who are not able to understand any word in English and cannot pronounce them even when you repeat them over and over again. I am not really sure if it is because they just hate the English language and they do not want to learn it or because for them, it is really difficult. Of course, if you go deeper into the English language and you become to learn syntax or morphology, the way becomes harder but, I think that it is the same with all the languages.

  14. Well, I don’t think that English language is difficult. What is true is that at the beginning for Spanish people result so difficult because of differences between pronunciation and spelling, for instance. Another reason is that Spanish people don’t find the need to learn this fundamental language, but sooner or later, they realise that they have to learn it because it’s necessary in case of getting a better job, to communicate with foreign people, etc. Another fact to take into account is that when Spanish teenagers learn this language at High School, they almost hate it because teachers teach always the same, because they fail their exams, etc. As a result, they don’t enjoy learning this language. Obviously, there are tricky things, such as phrasal verbs, idioms, and false friends, but this happens in every language and we have to learn it the same way as grammar and vocabulary.
