I've just come across this cartoon. Any thoughts about it?

English in countries out of the inner circle

If you have travelled to countries where English has no official status, what use could you make of English there? Did you see English in the media or in shops,etc.?

Subtitles or dubbing? Which do you usually use? Which is best for language learning?

Creoles in education

Do you think a specific creole should/could be used as a medium of instruction in primary and/or secondary education? What are the advantages/disadvantages? Who would benefit?

Occupational dialect activity

Task:

1.Select an individual speaker and monitor his or her speech.

•Data required:  age, gender, profession, work experience (<5 years’ experience, <10 years’ experience, >10 years experience)

2. Ask them to talk to you about their job/profession for 2-3 minutes and record them.

3. Draw a list of words common to that kind of occupational dialect.

4. Upload your audio and doc files to the blog
